Job Interview Tips: Before, During, and After the Interview Process

Job interview is one of stages in the recruitment process that must be carried out by the job-seekers. Because of this, job interview can be stressful for some people. Without preparation, you may fail in the interview process. Therefore, you need to prepare yourself for an interview to be accepted by the company you apply for. Here are some tips that you can use through the job interview stages:

  1. Before

Learn about the job and company profile you are applying for

Some job seekers tend to skip this step. They just apply for a job without searching for detailed information about the position being applied. Certain jobs may require the applicant to possess additional skills or take up other responsibilities.

Make sure that you do company profiling before taking an interview. You can look for general to detailed information about the company. These tips need to be done to answer the question ‘What do you know about our company?’

Plan your appearance

The first impression is crucial! Don’t let the recruiter judge you as a candidate who doesn’t take the interview process seriously because of your appearance. Therefore, prepare your appearance as best you can. Wear clean and neat attire, comb your hair, wear natural make-up and perfume to add freshness.

Prepare the necessary files

Prepare important files that need to be taken during the interview such as CV, portfolio, copy of certificate, pen, and notebook. It is better if you prepare the file in the evening before your interview schedule.

Don’t be late

A job interview is an important step, don’t be late! Come 30 minutes before the predetermined schedule. By arriving on time, you have extra time to prepare yourself before heading to the interview room. Think about the risks if you are late for an interview. You will be considered someone who is not disciplined and not serious about working at the company you are applying.

  1. During

Body language

Don’t forget to smile! With a smile, you will look more confident, and this could be your good image. Ensure you make eye contact with the interviewer and adopt good posture during the interview process.

Answer questions honestly

Remember, you are looking for a job! Answer the recruiter's questions honestly. You will appear nervous when you lie to a question. There is no need to overestimate your abilities by lying because this will be detrimental to yourself. If you are caught lying, you will fail the verification stage and the job offer will be cancelled.

Make a few questions

After the interview process, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Make sure you have questions and don’t miss the opportunity. You can ask about the next steps after the interview process, the benefit and facilities that will be obtained while working at the company, and opportunities to develop a career.

  1. After

Thank-you letter

Once you get home, you still have one more step that needs to be done to captive the recruiter. Try to send a thank-you letter for being invited for an interview today. Another candidate may rarely do these tips. By sending a thank-you letter, it allows you to be easily remembered by the recruiter.
